My Success Story
by: Shanta Hyche

When we don’t live in purpose, we find ourselves just surviving from one day to the next day. We go to clock in each day to a job that doesn’t fulfill us. We sit around and watch others prosper and wonder when it will finally be “my time.” Sound familiar? This was my life.

In the last ten years, I’m sure I’ve worked at seven different jobs, all in the same field. Each time I started working at a new place, I felt renewed and excited. After about six months, the excitement went away, and misery slowly found me again. After taking a hard, but necessary look at myself, here’s what I learned about me.

  • I have gifts that are undeveloped

  • My introverted tendencies require me to recharge in solitude

  • I love writing, reading, speaking, and researching

  • I enjoy helping others to be the best versions of themselves

  • My thought process slants to the negative if left unchecked

When I walked away from my last account receivables job in May 2017, I knew God had a plan for me. I worked diligently to follow His guidance. He revealed to me one day that writing is in my future. I quickly posted this on my vision board. Every day for precisely a year, I prayed faithfully for this gift. I didn’t just stop at prayer. I took online writing courses, a creative writing course in college, and I set a goal to write 2000 words per day. I listened to audiobooks and read books about becoming a better writer. I did my part of developing the gift.

Exactly one year later, a few writing articles I submitted to a client paid off. I received my first major contract. It’s hard to believe that one year ago, I walked away from a job, and had no idea about my future. Today, I am a self-employed entrepreneur, and God has my back. He’s cleared me to soar well beyond my self-imposed limitations. As a full-time college student, the chance to work from anywhere, doing something I love to do, came at the best time. It’s never about our timing; He always steps in on His time. The best is yet to come.

When I’m not writing for clients, I enjoy writing nonfiction Christian empowerment books and fictional short stories to increase the awareness of childhood trauma.
